The Black Coalition for AIDS Prevention (Black CAP) is a non-profit, community-based organization that serves Toronto’s diverse African, Caribbean and Black (ACB) communities. The mission of the agency is to reduce the transmission of HIV within Toronto’s Black communities while enhancing the quality of life of those living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Our approach to service delivery recognizes that holistic responses are required as we work with people who are living with, or at risk for, HIV. Black CAP is an inclusive space which provides services to a diverse ACB population that includes newcomers, LGBTQ communities, youth, and other at-risk populations. Position Summary:

The ACB Queer and Trans Youth Project  is a peer youth led initiative aimed at:

  • Increasing access to safe, inclusive programs for Black Queer and Trans Youth. Increasing their capacity to effectively engage service providers and advocate for services that are more responsive to their needs. 
  • Providing opportunities for participants to experience the benefits of mutual support through Peer Navigation services.
  • Youth Community Ambassadors (YCB) will be responsible for assisting the development, planning and implementation of the project



Key responsibilities of this position include:


  • Develop and execute on a Peer Navigation training curriculum
  • Conduct outreach to build relationships and delivers awareness sessions with service providers
  • Plan and coordinate two capacity and leadership development trainings
  • Accompaniment and advocacy support
  • Host monthly workshops and edutainment sessions
  • Create a referral list of ACB Queer and Trans Youth friendly spaces and services
  • Coordinate 3 community consultation / conversation circles
  • Coordinate one 2-day capacity building and leadership retreat for ACB Queer ad Trans Youth
  • Evaluate program related activities and complete regular reports.



We are seeking an individual with the following qualifications:


  • The ideal candidate for this position is a dynamic ACB Queer or Trans youth educator with a proven track record of working with youth and/ or working in a queer context.
  • Knowledge of Toronto’s ACB Queer and Trans youth communities
  • Diploma in social services, community development or another related discipline.
  • Ability to develop and design training curriculum
  • Excellent facilitation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and team building skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Comfort engaging community partners and conducting workshops
  • Ability to lead and motivate peers in conducting outreach and delivering workshops
  • Ability to work and operate in an environment using anti-racism and anti-oppression frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet targets, deadlines and manage multiple activities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point), Outlook and using social media
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
  • The ability to speak a language other than English is an asset.


Please note we are specifically seeking candidates from Toronto’s African, Caribbean or Black Queer and Trans youth communities who bring lived and/or employment experience in relation to working with ACB queer and/or trans youth. We also strongly encourage applicants who are living with HIV to consider applying for this role.
